Ajax stun Tottenham Hotspur in a tough UCL semi-final first-leg clash away from home

- Tottenham Hotspur vs Ajax saw the away side claim a vital win in the first leg tie on Tuesday, April 30

- Donny van de Beek found himself free and finished well from close range for Ajax as Jan Vertonghen was forced off after clashing with teammate Toby Alderweireld in the first half

- Ajax almost doubled their lead in the second half but David Neres' strike came off the post as Mauricio Pochettino's side failed to come to the party at home

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 0-1 defeat against Ajax in a tough Champions League semi-final first leg clash on Tuesday, April 30, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The encounter saw Tottenham Hotspur without the services of star forward Son Heung-min, who was suspended for clash while the trio of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen were in the starting XI against their former employers.

The Dutch giants after seeing off the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus in previous rounds, were in the front foot out after 15 minutes through Donny Van de Beek, who netted the opener from close-range.

After the goal, Tottenham struggled against the youthful Ajax side, but as the game progressed they came into the contest.

Brazilian star Lucas Moura was a major threat for Tottenham going forward, but Ajax were able to hold their own in the final third.

With eight minutes to the end of the first half, Spurs suffered a major blow after Jan Vertonghen cropped an injury after a collision with defence partner Alderweireld.

In the second half, Tottenham upped their game, with Dele Alli showing much improvement from his performance in the first half.

And Spurs came closing to levelling scores inside the opening 10 minutes, but Ajax were always sport on to clear the danger, with scores still at a goal advantage.

The away side Ajax almost added the second goal with 13 minutes remaining on the clock, after Dusan Tadic unselfishly found David Neres, but his first-time strike could only hit the upright with Lloris nowhere to be found.

And with 10 minutes of action left, Mauricio Pochettino replaced the duo of Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier with Ben Davies and Juan Foyth, with the North London wellers throwing everything in search of the needed equalizer.

At the blast of the final whistle, the scoreboard read Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Ajax, with the away side claiming a vital win ahead of the reverse fixture on May 8, at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that ahead of Tottenham vs Ajax UCL on Tuesday, April 30, an Ajax fan disciplined' a Spurs supporter in a bizzare move that saw the image go viral.

According to a UK Sun report, the picture in question shows a Tottenham fan apparently 'asleep' on a bench ahead of their Champions League semi-final clash.

The Ajax fan seemed to have changed the Spurs fan's shirt into an Ajax kit using red marker pen.
