The Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has received an award for the Best Performing Governor in Nigeria Award.
Tribune reports that the award was presented to the governor by the National Image International magazine for his exemplary performance in governance.
The organisation while presenting the award said Governor Ambode nominated based on his satisfactory performance in the governance of Lagos between 2015 to 2019.
Paul Smith, the head of publications for National Image International magazine, Paul Smith, said Governor Ambode’s achievements in Lagos is ground-breaking.
He also described the governor as the foremost Nigerian governor with the largest number of road projects.

Smith said: "Youth empowerment, skill acquisition, infrastructure development, small and medium scale industry empowerments for indigenes of the state, as well as promotion of peace and security and human capital development, which have altogether created prosperity for all Lagosians within the record time of virtually four years that Governor Ambode has been in office.”
He said the organisation premised their nomination criteria on five major areas: infrastructure development, human capital development, promotion of peace and security, as well as nearness to the grassroots people, and execution of people-oriented social service programmes that directly impacted on the lives of people in each state.
“Lagos is being rated as the fifth largest economy in Africa presently under the leadership of Governor Ambode who carried out economic re-engineering of the state. Our party has a way of churning out good leaders in the state and if this feat is sustained it would soon emerge as the biggest economy in Africa.
“The state is home to almost every religion, tribes and colour and it accommodates the largest pool of black people all over the world, including Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who is from Nigeria and has a home in Lagos,” Smith added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that during President Muhammadu Buhari visit to Lagos state on April 24, he paid a courtesy visit to the governor of Lagos state.

During his visit, he met with the family of the governor including his wife and children. A rare photo from the chatty rendezvous between the duo has been shared online.
The shot which was shared by the personal photographer of the president, Bayo Omoboriowo, perfectly depicted the moment the children of the governor were paying courtesy to the president.
The male child prostrated flat on the ground to show his respect to the president of Nigeria. This is the traditional Yoruba way of greeting the elders.
