Why we want Omo-Agege as Senate deputy president - South-south group

- Senator Omo-Agege seems to be getting the backing of a growing number of south-south indigenes in his Senate deputy presidency bid

- A political pressure group in Delta state has drummed support for Senator Omo-Agege, claiming that south-south people will gain a lot from him

- The group also said that the senator has carved a niche for himself and has delivered positively to the people in the region

A political pressure group in Delta, known as the Delta Central Unity and Progress Group, has thrown their weight behind Senator Ovie Omo-Agege in his Senate deputy presidency bid.

In a statement signed by its national coordinator and secretary, Tony Ejoh and Efe Okpomo, respectively, the group said that the people of south-south region stand to gain a lot if Senator Omo-Agege emerges as the deputy president of the 9th National Assembly, Independent reports.

The group stressed that the senator is outstanding in his performance, and has ‘’carved a niche for himself as a most astute, erudite, sagacious, pragmatic and courageous bridge-builder across ethnic lines.

“With consummate passion and fervour, he has established himself as a legislator per excellence and a firm believer and supporter of the foundations being laid by President Muhammadu Buhari for a better Nigeria through the ruling APC.

"No doubt, Senator Ovie Omo- Agege exudes tremendous zeal, enthusiasm and absolute commitment in ensuring the success of the Buhari-led APC government.

"Consequent upon the victory of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege in the March 23, senatorial election into the National Assembly as a two term (ranking senator), we hereby urge him to contest for the second highest office, the office of the deputy Senate president in the 9th Assembly of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

"It is with a strong sense of conviction that we call on all Nigerians, Deltans, and particularly the Urhobo people, to support this noble, lofty and patriotic cause.”

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Omo-Agege had said that he was the most qualified candidate for the office of the deputy senate president at the 9th Senate.

Omo-Agege who is currently participating in a two-week induction programme being organised by the National Assembly management for members and senators- elect at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja said he would soon declare for the office of the deputy senate president following calls and support from colleagues for the position.
