Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka has raised allegation against former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, claiming he contributed to the growth of Boko Haram terrorism by not dealing with the menace early.

Soyinka also said it was easy to back Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 as he also failed to deal with insurgency in a timely fashion.

The Nobel Laureate said President Buhari has also failed in the area of security particularly with the herdsmen attacks. He said: “The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny.”

Soyinka noted that supporting Jonathan in 2015 means a continuation of the corruption association with his administration and that Nigerians were caught “between the devil and the deep blue sea”.

He said: “Obasanjo contributed to the emergence of Boko Haram by not preventing the first governor in one of the northern states from establishing a “theocratic state”.

Soyinka said Obasanjo failed to act because he was “compromised” by his ambitions to continue in office beyond the second term limit..

Meanwhile, a report indicates that former chief security officer to the late head of state, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (rtd) and some retired military officers may have begun making some overtures to the insurgents in order to secure the release of the remaining Chibok school girls from the captivity of the Boko Haram insurgents.

According to the report, that Al-Mustapha has been working with his former colleagues in the military to secure the release of the abducted girls.

The former military officer was said to have been instrumental to the release of Islamic clerics and prayer warriors, who were abducted recently, but released few days later without the payment of any ransom.
