Senate presidency: Group to mobilise 2000-man march for Senator Goje

- Senator Danjuma Goje's quest to be the next Senate president has gotten a major boost

- The former governor of Gombe state has gotten the backing of a major group in the north-central geo-political zone

- North Central Alliance said it would mobilise a 2000-man march to the National Assembly in support of Goje

A group, North Central Alliance, said it would mobilise a 2000-man march to the National Assembly in support of Senator Danjuma Goje as the next Senate president.

Although no date was given for the march, the group said it would hold before the election of the next Senate president in June.

Chairman of the group, Comrade Nasiru Isiyaku, at a news briefing in Kaduna called on all senators-elect to support Senator Danjuma Goje for the position.

He described Senator Goje as a faithful member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) family, adding that he deserved the party’s support.

He said Goje’s credentials were good enough, having been governor for eight years between 2003 and 2011, and having been in the Senate since then.

His words: “The position of Senate president requires administrative and parliamentary knowledge which Goje possesses.

“Our party, APC, is a party of the people and for us, Sen. Danjuma Goje, is the right man for the job. He has the required experience as a tested administrator and high ranking lawmaker.

“He is a man of the people and a senator who has what it takes to carry others across party lines along.”

Isiyaku further said Goje is a party man to the core and “fits perfectly into the next level agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari.’’

He said being a third term ranking senator, Goje has the ability and capacity to lead the 9th Senate, effectively.

Meanwhile, another group, Ogene Igbo Support for Equity and Good Governance, has endorsed former Abia state governor and senator-elect, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, to become the deputy Senate president in the incoming 9th Senate.

The group said Kalu is most qualified for the position and urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other senators-elect to support his ambition.

National coordinator of the group, Charles Mbalisi, in a statement sent to journalists on Monday, April 15, urged Kalu to declare his intention as quickly as possible, expressing confidence that the former Abia governor would enjoy massive support from party officials and other colleagues.
