The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the new minimum wage bill as quickly as possible as workers were anxious for an improved package.
The National Assembly had sent the bill to President Buhari although he is yet to sign it.

Independent reports that NLC’s head of information and public affairs, Benson Upah spoke on Wednesday, April 10 urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the new minimum wage bill.
He said if the president appended his signature to it this month, workers will start enjoying the benefit from May.
Upah said: “The president constituted a committee that worked on the figure that was submitted to him and he sent it to the National Assembly as an executive bill. Similarly, the National Assembly members legislated on it and sent back to the president for consent.
“We have no reason to doubt that the president will not sign it into law; his body language does not suggest that he will not sign it. We are hoping and waiting for him to do so. If you ask me when he should sign it, I will tell you that NLC wants him to do so immediately. We want him to sign it right away so that by May 2019, workers can earn the new salary. They have been waiting anxiously.”
Meanwhile, the Imo chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other sister bodies have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state governor, Rochas Okorocha, to pay the salaries of workers for March 2019.
In a joint statement issued in Owerri by the state chairmen of NLC, the Trade Union Congress (TUC); and the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC); Austin Chilakpu, Nkim Tangban, Aloy Iwuanyanwu respectively, the organizations demanded the salaries of workers.
The various unions wondered why the workers had not received their salaries for March 2019.
