Porto, Liverpool square up in tough UCL cracker for semi-final ticket

Porto vs Liverpool Champions League decider will be the cynosure of most football fans on Wednesday, April 17, at Estádio do Dragão as both clubs seek the sole semi-final slot in the reverse fixture of their quarter-final clash.

The Jurgen Klopp tutored-side claimed a 2-0 lead after last week's first leg win at Anfield in the last 16 round, 3-1 on aggregate, with Porto dispatching Roma to progress.

The Reds’ are bookmakers’ favourites to advance, but Porto as former winners will have to produce a decent performance at home tonight to turn this match around.

Porto’s Moussa Marega must be sharper this time around to bridge Liverpool’s defence line to make amends for his poor show at Anfield last week.

Porto have never defeated Liverpool in a Champions League match in seven previous meetings (W4 D3 L0), with the Reds keeping a clean sheet in three successive matches.

Liverpool have also handed Porto their heaviest home defeat in Europe's club competitions after thrashing the Portuguese giants 5-0 in a last 16 clash during last season's Champions League campaign.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal was not enough as Juventus suffered a 1-2 home defeat against Ajax on Tuesday, April 16, in the reverse fixture of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

The encounter at Allianz Stadium saw Ajax come from behind to beat Juventus on the night and progress to the semifinals on a 3-2 aggregate win.

Ajax made an early substitution, with Daley Sinkgraven replacing Nossair Mazraoui in the 6th minute after the later suffered a knock.
