Nigeria begin tournament with a win in 9-goal thriller with Tanzania

- Nigeria vs Tanzania ended in a nine-goal thriller in an opening AFCON U-17 Group A contest

- The Golden Eaglets went 3-1 into the break as goals from Olatomi, Ubani and Amoo put them ahead

- But the Tanzanians, in dramatic fashion came back and led in the second by 4-3 with less than 20 minutes left to play

- However Nigeria wrestled their way back into the match with goals from Ubani and Jabaar who ensured 5-4 victory

Nigeria vs Tanzania ended 5-4 in favour of the Golden Eaglets as they began their U-17 AFCON campaign with a nine-goal thriller.

The young Nigerian side started off on a bright note as Olatomi Alfred put his side in the lead as he pounces on a rebound to make it 1-0.

Tanzania responded immediately within 60 seconds as they caught the Golden Eaglets off guard to put the scores level at one apiece.

Nduka Ugbade's boys got their noses back in front as Wisdom Ubani restores Nigeria's lead to make it 2-1.

Nigeria were 3-1 up in the 31st minute as Akin Amoo rounded the on rushing goalie and slots the ball home.

The Golden Eaglets went into the break with a two-goal advantage in their favour as looked forward for a better performance in the second half.

But the Tanzanians were not going down without a fight as they reduced the lead to one goal, scoring in the 51st minute to make it 3-2.

The game recorded its sixth goal as Tanzania equalized in dramatic fashion as the home crowd were sent into rapturous celebrations as the scores were level at 3-3.

The East African nation then got their noses in front for the first time in the match as they stunned their Nigerian counterpart to lead by 4-3.

Mayowa Abayomi handled the ball in the area for a penalty as the hosts converted the resulting spot-kick and were heading to an emphatic victory over the former world champions.

But the Golden Eaglets were not done yet as Ubani completed his brace and leveled the scores for Nigeria courtesy of a well-taken free-kick in the 71st minute. It became 4-4.

Five minutes later Ugbade's boys were back in the lead as Ibrahim Jabaar hits a super strike to Nigeria 5-4 up.

Nigeria will play their next Group A game against Angola on Wednesday, April 17 while Tanzania takes on Burundi on the same day.
