Karim Benzema saved Real Madrid from the jaws of defeat with his 18th goal of the campaign as they battled Leganes to a 1-1 draw in a tough LaLiga on Monday, April 15, at Estadio Municipal de Butarque.

The encounter saw Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo return to Leganes starting XI after recovering from a muscle injury.

On the other end, Gareth Bale started the bench after poor run of form, with the pair of Thibaut Courtois and Toni Kroos missing from the matchday squad.

Leganes came close to netting the opening goal of the contest through Martin Braithwaite after 15 minutes, but he could only strike his effort wide off target from close range.

In the remaining minutes of the first stanza, the Los Blancos had more of the ball possession, but the trio of Luka Modric, Isco and Asensio, struggled to apply the finish when it mattered most.

On the dot of 45 minutes, Leganes broke the deadlock after Braithwaite provided Silva with a decent assist, who wasted no time in striking his shot beyond the reach of Keylor Navas from the edge of Real Madrid penalty box.

In the second stanza, Los Blancos improved on the performance and six minutes after the restart, Karim Benzema leveled scores for Los Blancos after Ivan Cuellar saved his initial effort.

Interestingly, despite the lively intentions from the two sides in the early stages of the second half, none of them were able to convert the numerous chances that came their way.

And with 15 minutes left on the clock, Zidane replaced Lucas Vazquez with Gareth Bale as Los Blancos went in search of the match winner, but after 90 minutes no winner emerged.
