The governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson on Sunday., April 7, offered automatic employment to 307 products of the Bayelsa State Scholarship Scheme who concluded their doctorate degree and master decree programmes in various disciplines in universities across the world.
Dickson also announced automatic employment to all medical doctors, pharmacists and public health specialists as well as other beneficiaries of the State Scholarship Scheme who studied professional courses.
He said most of the professionals are considered critical to the ongoing efforts to develop the state.
The special adviser to the governor on media relations, Fidelis Soriwei, in a statement said the announcement was made by the governor during his meeting with the beneficiaries of the scheme in Yenagoa at the weekend.
Dickson during the meeting said 107 PhD holders would be deployed to the three state-owned universities - the Niger Delta University, University òf Africa and the Bayelsa Medical University - as lecturers.
Also, other professionals from the scholarship scheme -medical students and others with professional courses at master's degree level - would be engaged in the various medical facilities and the civil service respectively.
He also noted that the scholarship scheme introduced by the state came with heavy sacrifice and cost to the government.
The governor said the state government was saddled with outstanding liabilities of about three million Pounds, one million Euros, several millions of dollars and naira.
In his reaction, Dr Jude Cocodia, a lecturer at the Niger Delta University, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries who studied for Phd, commended the governor for his bold revolution in the education sector in the state.
Cocodia said the state was already feeling the positive impacts of years of sustained investments in education especially at the NDU which is host to a large number of the beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the full scholarship up to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) level has been awarded to three young scientists who came tops at the 2018 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award Competition, by the federal government.

The announcement was made by President Muhammadu Buhari, while declaring open the Technology and Innovation Expo 2019 in Enugu, Enugu state.
Legit.ng gathers that the president, who was represented by the secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, commended the creativity and competitive spirit of the successful candidates - Okeke Favour Obianuju from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Fafemi Fisayo Daniel from Kwara state and Joshua John Mark from Akwa Ibom state, who emerged first, second and third respectively.
