Czech international passes on after Turkish team bus crash

Josef Sural, Czech Republic international, has been reported died after Alanyaspor’s team minibus crashed while returning from an away game with players on board

According to the Turkish side on Twitter, the 28-year-old striker Sural, gave up the ghost at the hospital after seven of the squad members, including England star Steven Caulker and Papiss Cisse, were rushed to after the accident.

Interestingly, Sural was left on the substitute bench all 90 minutes during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Kayserispor, in which Caulker netted Alanyaspor’s goal.

Moments after the match, the VIP minibus rented by the seven players, departed from Kayseri, but after about 5 km away from the match venue - Alanya they suffered the crash.

The report revealed that other squad members and staff had returned with the other team bus or on their own

According to Alanyaspor's chairman Hasan Çavuşoğlu, quoting police sources, the bus crash was caused as a result of the two bus drivers falling asleep during the return trip.

“According to information I received from our police chief, despite there being two drivers on the vehicle, they were both asleep," Çavuşoğlu said, according to Anadolu.

"The crash happened as a result of them both being asleep.”

Šural, who earned 20 caps for Czech Republic, was rushed to a nearby hospital and underwent a surgery, but could not be saved by doctors.

The pair of Caulker and Cisse picked up minor injuries.

Sural joined Alanyaspor from Sparta Prague for a nominal fee in January.

He previously plied his trade with Slovan Liberec and FC Brno

Meanwhile, the report suggest the drivers have been detained following the accident and a probe into the incident have commenced.

Šural, who won 20 caps for his country and scored once, was rushed to a nearby hospital and immediately taken for an operation, but could not be saved by doctors.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Resolution Impala Saracens' player Richard Sidindi Akoth has passed on after drowning while swimming at the club's training ground on Monday morning, February 25.

Sidindi played as a fullback at Impala which he joined in 2011 from Kisumu RFC. He was part of Saracens’ squad that went down 18-11 to Homeboyz in the Eric Shirley Shield last weekend.

It's reported locally that both Caulker and Cisse picked up minor injuries.

Sural moved to Turkey from his homeland in January, signing from Sparta Prague for a nominal fee.
