Auchi Poly takes action against money-for-marks menace; sacks 17 staff, downgrades 10 others

- The Auchi Polytechnic has sacked 17 staff members for allegedly collecting money and other gratifications from students for marks and grades

- 10 other staff members were also downgraded for the same offense

- The institution’s rector said those sanctioned believed that engaging in the illegal practice was a way of life

17 staff members of the Auchi Polytechnic have been sacked by the institution’s management for allegedly collecting money and other gratifications from students for marks and grades.

The development was made public by the polytechnic’s rector, Dr Sanusi Jimah, during the institution’s 25th convocation ceremony which took place on Sunday, March 31, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that 10 staff members were also downgraded for the same offense.

Jimah said: “The polytechnic has raised the standard of discipline in the last two years. I can report that this nexus for money-for-marks, gratification for grades and other unethical practices has been largely curbed.

“The polytechnic achieved this by visiting sanctions on 27 staff who thought that this was a way of life.

“Of the number, 11 staff were dismissed, six had their appointment terminated; while 10 others were downgraded.”

In a similar development, Legit.ng previously reported that the management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife announced the sacking of a lecturer, Professor Richard Akindele, for allegedly demanding sex from a student, Monica Osagie, to upgrade her mark.

Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, the vice chancellor of the university, announced the sack at a press conference in Ife. He said the Governing Council sacked the lecturer, having found him guilty of all the charges leveled against him.
