11 bandits arrested, 37 assorted weapons recovered by troops in Nasarawa

- Security agents have arrested 11 suspected bandits in Nasarawa state

- In the past five weeks, Operation Whirl Stroke undertook nine operations

- During the operations, 37 assorted weapons including AK-47 rifles, two G3 rifles and others were recovered

A combined team of the army, air force, navy, police and DSS of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has arrested 11 suspected bandits in Nasarawa state.

Commander of the operation, Mj. Gen. Adeyemi Yekini, in Lafia at a press briefing, disclosed that 37 assorted weapons were recovered from the bandits, Daily Trust reports.

An undisclosed number of bandits were also killed in the course of the operation.

Yekini said: “OPWS undertook nine operations in the past five weeks; from March 9 to April 17 this year in the state, which covered Doma, Toto, Obi and Awe local government areas of Nasarawa state where the 37 weapons were recovered.”

The weapons recovered were AK-47 rifles, two G3 rifles, one Clarion 5.56 Isreali Commando Assort rifle, one Sub Machine Gun (SMG), 3 pistols, 20 locally made pistols, 389 rounds of ammunition and one grenade.

Legit.ng had reported earlier that the Nigerian Police Force has deployed a special tactical team to Nasarawa state to provide additional support to the existing security operatives. This is part of measures to put an end to the heinous activities of bandits in the state.

The spokesman of the Force, DCP Frank Mba, said the decision was expedient to restore peace and order back into the Numa Kochu village of Nasarawa state, which has been thrown into panic following series of attack on Sunday, April 14.

The police PRO also said the acting inspector general of police, Abubakar Muhammed Adamu, had directed the Nasarawa police command to fish out the villains perpetrating the attacks.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has vowed to arrest the perpetrators of the Sunday, April 14 attacks on Numa Kochu village in Nasarawa state. The Army vowed to make them face the wrath of the law.
