Kinsmen of the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, have appealed to the governor-elect of the state, Emeka Ihedioha, to “look kindly on our people, as Ideato South local government area truly suffered huge neglect in the past eight years ."

Representatives of the South East Peoples Democratic Party Elders Council, also implored Ihedioha to “to take a holistic review of the collateral damage done to Imo people’s psyche and state’s economy and work out sound ways to address then,” Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the pleas were made during a courtesy visit by leaders of the delegations, Dr Rufus Omeire and Senator Ben Obi, to Ihedioha in Owerri.

According to Omeire, the purpose of the visit was not just to congratulate Ihedioha, but to inform the governor-elect of the deprivations they passed through, at the hands of their brother.

He said: “It will be heard to believe, but the greater percentage of Ideato South people suffered serious deprivations in the hands of our brother. We are pleased that the outgoing governor did not actualize his intent of foisting his son-in-law on Imo people.”

Omeiri’s position was also supported by a former commissioner for commerce and industry, Ben Obinali, who said that “most of the communities in the area were completely neglected by the Okorocha administration”.

Senator Ben Obi, speaking on behalf of the South East PDP Elders Council, appealed to Ihedioha to redress the damage done to the people’s psyche and the state’s economy.

He said: “We are happy with Imo people and certainly, with you on board, Imo will be liberated from the clutches of intimidation, high handedness and government of a family, by a family and for a family.”

Obi reminded the governor-elect that “in the circumstance the people have found themselves, there is a lot of work to be done in the state”.

In response, Ihedioha stated: “Expectations are very high. The people’s victory is being celebrated across the country and that is the challenge facing me. The difficulties we have as a state, in the past seven or eight years, is before us.

“We have had the misfortune of having an unfortunate government. We have lost focus as a state. The arms of government also function in breach of the dictates of our constitution. I have a responsibility to restore order in Imo and bring our state back to life.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Thursday, March 21, claimed that PDP members in the state were "in a hurry to resume their alleged looting of the treasury and properties of the state".

The governor said this was obvious from their body languages and their utterances especially since they had stayed out of power for eight years.
