Victory for Shehu Sani as tribunal orders INEC to grant senator access to inspect election materials

- Senator Shehu Sani has been granted access to inspect materials ‎used during the February 23 National Assembly elections in his constituency

- Sani had asked that INEC make result sheets and incident forms available for inspection

- The Kaduna election tribunal also ruled that INEC should make Certified True Copy of all documents available to the petitioners

The Kaduna state National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal has granted Senator Shehu Sani access to inspect elections ‎ materials ‎used during the February 23 National Assembly elections in his constituency.

The chairman of the tribunal, Justice A. H. Suleiman, granted the access, following an ex parte motion filed by Sani and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that in petition No. EPT/KD/SN/M/02/19, Sani asked that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) make result sheets and incident forms available for inspection.

Delivering his ruling, the tribunal chairman stated: “An order is hereby made compelling the 3rd Respondent (INEC) to allow the petitioners/applicants or their agents or assigns access to inspect documents (Form EC8A, Eze INEC incident forms) and result sheets of all polling units in the seven local government areas that make up Kaduna Central senatorial district.

“An order is hereby also made on the 3rd Respondent to make available to the petitioners/applicants Certified True Copy of all the documents.”

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that Senator Shehu Sani called for the cancellation of the election that was held in the Kaduna Central senatorial district on February 23.

Addressing pressmen ahead of the official announcement by INEC, Sani claimed the cancellation was expedient following the alleged reports of violence, over-voting and ballot stuffing.
