Sanwo-Olu, MC Oluomo assure Igbos of safety in Lagos state

- The Lagos APC governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and a leader of NURTW, popularly called MC Oluomo, hold a peace meeting with the Igbo community at the Computer Village, Ikeja

- Babajide Sanwo-Olu used the opportunity to canvass for Igbo votes and support, promising to protect their interest if elected into office on March 9, 2019

- A similar peace meeting between Yoruba and Ndigbo at Oshodi is convened by MC Oluomo where a peace accord was said to have been endorsed by the two ethnic groups

The governorship candidate of the APC in the Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly called MC Oluomo, have assured the Igbo community in Lagos of their safety in the state ahead of the March 9 governorship election.

Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance at the Computer Village, Ikeja, in the company a delegation comprising of his running-mate, Femi Hamzat and others, Vanguard reports.

The peace meeting was held following alleged threats to attack Igbos in Lagos following electoral violence that occurred on Saturday February 23 at Ago Palace Way.

The governorship candidate who used the opportunity to canvass for Igbo votes and support, also promised to protect their interest if elected into office on March 9, 2019

In response, the Igbo community in Computer Village promised to ensure Ndigbo voted for Sanwo-Olu and other APC candidates.

A similar peace meeting between Yoruba and Ndigbo at Oshodi was convened by MC Oluomowhere a peace accord was said to have been endorsed by the two ethnic groups.

Reports have it that MC Oluomo at the meeting dissociated his members’ involvement from the alleged attack and threat to Igbo living in Lagos.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it has made progress for the smooth conduct of governorship and the state house of assemblies elections on Saturday, March 9.

Legit.ng reports that the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, at the commission’s meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Thursday, February 28, said that the governorship election would hold in 29 states.

He explained that governorship elections in the remaining seven states were staggered and had already been conducted off season.
