Lionel Messi and Barcelona are struggling to overcome the quarter-final 'curse' of the Champions League despite United supporters fear to battle the Catalans.

And United interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must find a way to ensure the players’ morale is fired up.

The Argentine playmaker no doubt is expected to lead Barcelona’s quest for a fifth Champions League silverware after netting a brace against Lyon at the Nou camp

However, Man United supporters don’t have to panic over Messi or Barcelona as far as the quarterfinal round of the UCL is concerned.

At the last count, Barcelona have been eliminated at this round in the last three campaigns, and the fourth in last five seasons.

Serie A side Roma were the last side to send Barca packing in 2017-18 season after staging a comeback from 4-1 .

Juventus and Atletico Madrid are the two other teams that have also ended Barcelona run at this stage of the competition.

On the other hand, Messi has struggled to find his form at this round, going 11 quarter-final matches in the UCL without netting a goal.

Interestingly, the Barcelona captain scored last in the quarter-finals against PSG in April 2013, with the tie ending in a 2-2 draw in Paris.

In addition, statistics further revealed Messi scores easily against English opposition, with a massive 22 goals tally against clubs from the English topflight.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Barcelona thrashed Lyon 5-1 on Tuesday, March 13, in a last-16 clash at Camp Nou to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The encounter saw a decent performance from the home-side that had the likes of Clement Lenglet, Sergi Roberto and Ivan Rakitic join the squad after sitting out last weekend’s win over Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.

Barcelona had the first chance to score in the 18th minute after Lyon defender Jason Denayer fouled Luis Suarez inside the vital area and Lionel Messi stepped up to convert from the spot.
