Ahmed Safana (APC, Katsina), the deputy chairman of the House of Representative committee on loans, aids and debt management, has urged the federal government to save Katsina state from the criminal activities of armed bandits, kidnappers, and cattle rustlers.
Safana made this call in a state in Abuja on Sunday, March 24, where he grieved that his Safana/Batsari/Dansuma federal constituency has been overrun by criminals who harass and kidnap people for money, Daily Trust reports.

The lawmaker also said five people were recently killed besides other violent incidents that had been happening in Kasai village in Batsari local government area.
“I am disturbed that people are displaced from their homeland without any meaningful intervention from the appropriate authorities.
“Let me mention that the people of Alhazawa village in Safana LGA have been displaced. So, my constituents are in a precarious situation to the extent that I find it difficult to visit them when the need arises.
“We appeal to the government to deploy more security personnel to the affected areas, in order to put an end to the nefarious activities of these criminal elements, and safeguard lives and property,” he said.
The lawmaker also mentioned that he had on two different times in 2015 and 2019 moved a motion in the House for the intervention of federal government in the issues.
He also recalled that the matter is so bad that the mother-in-law to Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina state was kidnapped just before the general elections.
Safana also said the bandits are camping in Daji Rugu forest, an area which stretches from Katsina through Zamfara to Birnin-Gwari in the state.
He added that economic activities of the area have been affected because of the criminal activities.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that suspected gunmen in the early hours of Friday, March 8, kidnapped Hajiya Maisitiyari, the mother-in-law of the governor of Katsina state, Aminu Masari.
Reports added that the suspects invaded the elderly woman’s Katsina Layout residence on motorcycles and abducted her.
