Nigerian author and social media critic, Reno Omokri, has taken to the Twitter platform to compare the teachings of pastors in today's society to that of Jesus Christ in the Bible.
It is common to hear about pastors; especially in Nigeria, living extravagant lifestyles while their congregants often live in poverty. Author and former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has taken to Twitter to address this.
In a Twitter post, he wrote:"I go to churches and sadly, I see many people being entertained while they think they are being enlightened. It breaks my heart to say it, but it seems the lives that are being transformed are the preachers’. Jesus fed the poor, but today’s poor feed their preachers"

He went on to talk about the lies often told in church about God doing the work for man rather than blessing man's work. He wrote: "The most beautiful LIE in the world is the lie that God will do it for you. God never said that. The painful TRUTH is the fact that God wont do your work for you. He will, however, bless your work for you. God does what you CAN’T do for yourself, not what you WONT"
Omokri is fond of dishing out foods for thought which he calls 'Reno Nuggets'. While his opinions are often accepted by social media users, the reverse is the case sometimes.
A while ago, he received some backlash on social media after he shared his opinion on domestic violence and the issue of divorce in marriage. According to him, physical/emotional abuse are not grounds for divorce but separation.
