Former US president Bill Clinton expresses interest in meeting 8-year-old Nigerian chess player

- Eight-year-old Nigerian boy, Tanitoluwa Adewunmi, has made the country proud after winning a chess game

- Adewunmi has been highly celebrated after he won the New York Chess Championship

- The former president of the United States, Bill Clinton, has expressed his wish to meet with the talented boy at his office

Nigerians are no doubt a talented set of people and their skills have been known to be celebrated worldwide time and again.

A young Nigerian boy identified as Tanitoluwa Adewunmi, recently became the subject of praise after he won the New York Chess Championship. Adewumi won the top prize in his age category at the New York game.

Tanitoluwa who lives with his parents in a homeless shelter in the United States reportedly fled Nigeria due to Boko Haram attacks in their hometown.

Interestingly, his skill at chess has earned him recognition from a former president of the United States, Bill Clinton.

Clinton revealed that he is quite impressed with Tanitoluwa’s story and he would love to meet him sometime.

He tweeted: “Refugees enrich our nation and talent is universal, even if opportunity is not.”

“This story made me smile. Tanitoluwa, you exemplify a winning spirit – in chess and in life. And kudos to your hardworking parents. You all should stop by my office in Harlem; I'd love to meet you.”

This is very impressive. There is no doubt that talent can take you far.

Legit.ng previously reported how Tanitoluwa Adewunmi conquered the world of chess in the US.

In an interview with Newsday, the little boy had spoken about his life as a chess player and what he wishes to achieve as a talented player.

The eight-year-old explained that he prepared for the game by practicing on chess playing sites. He said he was introduced into playing chess in class.

According to the little boy, he likes the game of chess because it is a thinking game. He also noted that his favourite player of all time is his chess coach.
