Following 48 hours ultimatum, Kano CP apologises to NBA over detention of members

- Following alleged attack and maltreatment of some lawyers in Kano, police command in the state has apologised to the state branch of the Nigerian Bar Association

- Recall that NBA in Kano gave the state police command 48 hours to tender public apology to the association for allegedly attacking and maltreating its members while on their lawful duties

- The apology was made by the state commissioner of police, Wakili Mohammed, when he paid a visit to the state headquarters of the association

The police command in Kano state on Thursday, March 21, apologised to the state branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) over alleged attack and maltreatment of some lawyers in the state.

The state police commissioner, Wakili Mohammed, made the apology when he visited the state headquarters of the NBA located at Farm Centre area in Kano metropolis, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Mohammed said that lawyers were partners in progress, hence his decision to apologise to the union in order to forge ahead.

He said: “Lawyers are part of me and part of my job so I hope we will continue to work together and do what is expected of us in accordance with the law."

Mohammed said he was ready to apologise to the union in whatever way the members of the union wanted it either in a written letter or through the print media.

Responding, the state chairman of the association, Musa Abdullahi-Lawal, thanked the commissioner of police for the visit.

He expressed the readiness of the union to work with the police in the state to ensure quick dispensation of justice.

Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kano state branch, gave the state police command 48 hours to tender public apology to the association for allegedly attacking and maltreating its members while on their lawful duties.

The secretary of the association, Mujtaba Adamu-Ameen, gave the ultimatum while addressing a news conference in Kano on Wednesday, March 20.

He said: “Yesterday, Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at around 2300 hours heavily armed policemen numbering about 30 in six Hilux police vans, alongside a political party member wearing red cap and some pressmen stormed an election petition secretariat."
