Fayose’s trial resumes over alleged N6.9billion fraud

The trial of a former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, over an alleged N6.9billion fraud will resume on Monday, March 18.

Legit.ng gathered that the trial is before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Nigeria's commercial city of Lagos

Fayose was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on October 22, 2018 alongside his company, Spotless Investment Ltd, on 11 counts criminal charge.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the court granted him bail in the sum of N50million, with one surety in like sum.

Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) represents the EFCC; while for former Attorney-General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi (SAN) and Olalekan Ojo (SAN) are representing the first and second accused persons respectively.

On Monday, February 4, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister of state for defence, told the court that it was tough accepting to testify against Fayose, who he described as his friend.

Under cross examination by defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), Obanikoro while testifying in Fayose's trial, admitted he returned N200 million to the federal government.

He said it was part of funds received from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) during the 2014 Ekiti election, admitting that he led the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) team in Ekiti for Fayose’s victory.
