Congratulations, but remember minimum wage - Labour tells Buhari

- A branch of the organised labour congratulates President Buhari over his election victory

- The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) reminds Buhari about the minimum wage

- The labour body wants the president to sign the minimum wage act immediately it is passed by the Senate

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), on Thursday, February 28, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to and enforce the new minimum wage act once it is passed by the Senate.

Legit.ng learnt that Bashir Lawal, the secretary-general of ASCSN, made the appeal in Lagos while congratulating President Buhari over his re-election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lawal pleaded with Buhari not to delay in signing the new wage bill when ready.

The labour leader noted that the bill had already been approved by the House of Representatives.

He praised the president for ensuring timely payment of workers’ salaries.

Lawal said that it was good that the president did not lay off workers, noting that the labour market was over-saturated.

“We commend the president for ensuring that salaries and allowances of public servants are paid as and when due.

“We are happy that promotion arrears and outstanding salaries owed workers had been settled,” he said.

The labour leader said that there was no doubt that workers omitted or short-paid would be settled soonest.

He commended Buhari for keeping his promise to make unity colleges to remain a commonwealth.

For him, the president must spend his next four years looking at areas that would need improvement in order to enhance national cohesion, peace, prosperity and progress.

Legit.ng earlier reported earlier that Alhaji Ishaq Hadejia, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa state, advised President Muhammadu Buhari to avoid re-appointing ministers that did not perform credibly in office.

Legit.ng learnt that Hadejia, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa state on Thursday, February 28 on the re-election of President Buhari.

The APC chieftain argued that the president earned a lot of votes from Nigerians because of the trust and confidence the citizens have in him.
