President Muhammadu Buhari, in the evening of Thursday, February 28, congratulated his counterpart, Macky Sall, who is the head of the government of Senegal, on his re-election for a second term and the conduct of a peaceful exercise in that country.
Buhari sent his congratulatory message through Femi Adesina, his spokesperson.
The statement obtained by Legit.ng said President Buhari also “commends the people of Senegal on the successful and peaceful conduct of the presidential election, noting that the scenario of successful elections in West African countries is a sign of hope that democracy has come to stay in the sub-region.

“While wishing the Senegalese people peace, stability and progress, President Buhari looks forward to working with President Sall to advance existing bilateral cooperation in various fields for the benefits of their citizens.
“At the sub-regional level, the Nigerian leader expresses readiness to partner with his Senegalese counterpart to achieve greater progress in the economic, governance, peace, security and humanitarian fields."
The Senegalese election was held same day that of Nigeria was conducted.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the UK government congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on securing a second term as president.
A statement from the British High Commission in Abuja on Wednesday, February 27, quoted the minister of state for Africa, Harriett Baldwin, as saying: “I offer my congratulations to President Buhari on securing a second term as the Nigerian president.
“The UK is a long-standing friend and partner of Nigeria and the Nigerian people and a stable and prosperous Nigeria benefits Africa and the world."
It also reported that President Muhammadu Buhari, early on Wednesday, February 27, addressed Nigerians after he was declared the winner of the keenly contested presidential election between him and Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
