Sadio Mane scores as West Ham United hold Liverpool to a draw in Premier League clash

West Ham United battled Premier League leaders Liverpool to a 1-1 draw on Monday, February 4 in a tough Premier League clash.

The encounter which took place at the London Olympic Stadium saw the away side take the lead through Sadio Mane after 22 minute to silent the home fans.

The Hammers had the first chance of the game to score from Aaron Cresswell strike but Alisson Becker was spot with his save after 11 minutes.

In 22nd minute, James Milner broke loose down the right flank before connecting Sadio Mane, who controlled perfectly before finding the far corner for the opener.

But their joy was turned to sorrow six minutes later when Michail Antonio was at the end of a pass from Felipe Anderson picked his spot before finding the far net.

It was a give and take contest for the rest of the first stanza, but the home side had one last chance to go ahead before the break after Anderson's free-kick fell to Declan Rice, who could not hit target.

In the second stanza, Liverpool were more lively with Mohamed Salah running things, but failed to scoring from two quick chances at the hour mark

German boss Jurgen Klopp bought in the pair of Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi for Lallana and Roberto Firmino as the Reds searched for the winner, but West Ham held their own, to share the spoils.

At the blast of the referee Kevin Friend final whistle the scoreboard read West Ham United 1 - 1 Liverpool.

A performance that see Liverpool lead at the top of the log cut to three points ahead of second-place Manchester City, who have a glorious chance to leapfrog the Reds if they beat Everton on Wednesday, February 6.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Mohamed Salah will have a chance to increase his goal tally on Monday night when Liverpool travel to the London Stadium for their Premier League battle against West Ham United.

The Egyptian goal machine is currently topping the goals scorer chart for this season's Golden Boot race after netting 16 goals in his side's last 24 matches in the topflight.

He scored twice in the Reds 4-3 home win against Crystal Palace but was unable to find the back of the net when Leicester City came visiting on January 30, 2019 as they were held to 1-1 draw.
