PDP Bayelsa accused of anti-party activities after APC wins GEJ’s senatorial constituency

- Goodluck Jonathan lost his senatorial district to the APC in Bayelsa

- A chieftain of the party accused some members of anti-party activities

- The party vowed to look into the issue after the elections

The inability of former president, Goodluck Jonathan, to deliver his constituency has reportedly led to disquiet in the Peoples Democratic Party n Bayelsa state.

The senatorial district fell to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Degi Eremienyo Wagara while its candidate for Nembe-Brass Federal Constituency, Isreal Sunny-Igoli, also won.

The Nation reports that it was the efforts of Governor Seriake Dickson’s appointees, who went extra miles to rescue the PDP that stopped Jonathan from entirely losing Ogbia.

A chieftain of the party reportedly claimed what happened on election day was anti-party activities from Jonathan’s loyalists and some appointees who were disloyal to the governor.

The chieftain said: “The Ogbia Renaissance raised the alarm days before the election accusing the former President and his loyalists in the PDP of working against the candidates of the party in Ogbia and the Eastern Senatorial District.

“Despite denying the allegations and pouring invectives on the group, the anti-party played out in the election as these individuals openly backed and sponsored the APC and the ADC House of Representatives candidates.

“There associates, who are PDP appointees in Dickson’s government also worked against the PDP candidate. It took special efforts and commitment of some loyal appointees of the governor such as Daniel Iworiso-Markson to avert the defeat of our House of Representative candidate in Ogbia Local Government Area.

“We are watching them and we have noted the roles each of them played. The PDP in the state had already established a disciplinary committee and the names of these people have been penciled down.

“They will be invited after the election to face the committee. It is shameful that under the watch of former President Jonathan, PDP lost a senatorial district to the APC in an area that is supposed to be a stronghold of our party. This is what anti-party can cause”.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Bayelsa chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, February 25, denied allegation by Governor Seriake Dickson that the party colluded with the military during Saturday’s polls to cause violence.

Doifie Buokoribo, the state publicity secretary of APC, disclosed this in Yenagoa, adding that the allegation was to blackmail the party.

The party said that it was regrettable that Dickson was raising a false alarm about violence during the presidential and National Assembly elections.
