Election 2019: Governor Ortom assures IDPs of safety

- Governor Samuel Ortom has assured IDPs in Benue state that their safety is guaranteed during the 2019 elections

- The governor gave the assurance when he visited the some IDPs in the state recently

- He assured them that his government is working with security agencies to ensure they participate in the polls with any hitches

Governor Samuel Ortom has assured Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in various camps across Benue state that his administration is collaborating with security agencies to guarantee their safety as they take part in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

The governor gave the assurance on Friday, February 15, when he visited the IDPs camps in Ugba and Anyiin in Logo local government area of the state.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of the displaced persons, saying that though keeping them in the camps for over a year had taken a toll on finances of the state, the government would not relent until security is fully restored in all their communities to enable them return home.

He stated that his second term in office will make life better for people of the state through good policies and programmes considering the fact that the economy of the country had improved after the recession.

The IDPs who spoke through their leaders, commended Governor Ortom for standing firmly with his people and refusing to betray them even at the expense of his relationship with the federal government.

They equally thanked the governor for the care and love he had shown them, praying God to be with him, his family and the entire administration.

The IDPs said they were in support of Governor Ortom and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to emerge victorious from the Benue state governorship and presidential elections.

Also speaking on the occasion, former council chairman of Guma, Mr. Charles Torbunde, former commissioner in the state, Mrs. Rebecca Apezan and others pledged their support for the reelection of the governor and the election of all PDP candidates during the February 16 and March 2 general election.

Meanwhile, top officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and hundreds of their supporters from Jos south local government area of Plateau state have defected to the PDP.

They were led by the APC legal adviser in the area, Hon. Joseph Mani, who said they were leaving the APC because the party had nothing good to offer Nigerians.
