Delta state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has congratulated victorious Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the just concluded 2019 Presidential/National Assembly elections for emerging winners at the polls.
In a statement sent to Legit.ng by his spokesman, Mr. Charles Aniagwu on Wednesday, February 27, Governor Okowa said he wasn't surprised over the victory of the party's candidates because the PDP has entrenched itself as a grassroots party with people oriented programmes and policies as well as life impacting projects geared towards building a stronger Delta.
Governor Okowa said: “On behalf of the government and people of Delta state, I will like to congratulate our victorious party members on their successful election into the National Assembly.
“The successes recorded by our party where we garnered two Senate seats and nine federal seats is an indication that our party is still very much in touch with the grassroots in Delta state.
“In the last 20 years of our leadership in the state, we have made tremendous impact in providing well needed infrastructure as well as people orientated policies and programmes for the good of Deltans.
“We appreciate the people of Delta state for coming out en masse to cast their votes and i call on them to continue supporting our party the PDP especially as the governorship election is coming up on Saturday March 9, 2019.
“We will continue to execute well meaning projects for the benefit of Deltans in our quest to build a stronger Delta of our dreams.”

Meanwhile, the PDP in Abia state has rejected the result of Abia North senatorial election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the zone on Saturday, February 23.
In an emergency meeting of the state working committee of the party presided over by the chairman of the party in the state, Sir Johnson Onuigbo, the party said, “after a critical review of the election, including unlawful manipulations and unjustifiable cancellations, concluded that, at best, the election was inconclusive and should be so declared by INEC.”
INEC had announced the former Abia state governor, Dr Orji Uzor-Kalu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the keenly contested polls.
