As a second thought after the objection of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s ban on campaign during the timeframe of the extension of the elections, the electoral body has decided to meet on Monday, February 18, in order to reconsider its decision.

Rotimi Oyekanmi, the chief press secretary of of Mahmood Yakubu, INEC's national chairman, said that the commission as part of the agenda of the said meeting will review its position and reach an agreement as to whether or not campaigns can be reopened, Vanguard reports.

Earlier, APC and PDP had challenged INEC's ban, claiming that it has no constitutional basis. Moreover, the opposition party had alleged that the federal government and the APC were sabotaging INEC in a scheme to fabricate a staggered presidential poll.

Added to this, the PDP asked INEC to revoke its decision on the ban on campaigns by political parties, which has been supported by the director of strategic communications of the APC'S presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo, who referred to INEC's decision as illegal
