Barcelona seal €12m deal for highly-rated Brazilian right-back on transfer deadline day

- Barcelona have signed Emerson from Brazil topflight side Atletico Mineiro

- The 20-year-old Emerson has been touted as the 'new Dani Alves'

- Emerson was repeatedly linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool this transfer window

Barcelona have announced the signing of right-back Emerson Aparecida Leite de Souza Junior.

According to a statement on the club’s website, the 20-year-old Emerson, who penned a five-year deal valued at €12m from Atletico Mineiro in the Brazilian topflight will join the Camp Nou dwellers on July 1.

FC Barcelona and Atlético Mineiro have reached an agreement for the transfer of Emerson Aparecida Leite de Souza Junior.

“The Brazilian will be officially joining the Catalan club on 1 July 2019.

“The fee has been set at €12m and the player will be signing for the next five seasons, through to 2023/24.

“Born in Sao Paulo on 14 January 1999 (20 years), Emerson has been in Belo Horizonte for little over a year.

“Before Atlético Mineiro he was playing for Ponte Preta from the city of Campinas,” the release read in part.

Interestingly, the right-back, who is currently with Brazil squad at the South American U20 Championship in Chile has been dubbed the 'new Dani Alves' due to his playing style.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Emerson is planning to shun interests from top Premier League clubs and join Barcelona this summer.

The Brazil youngster has been a top transfer target for both Arsenal and Liverpool, but the 20-year-old would give the Catalans future rights to his services.

He currently plays for Atletico Mineiro in his country and has been tipped has one of the south American starlets to move to Europe.
