Atiku files counter-suit against Buhari, demands N2billion damages

- Abubakar Atiku filed a counter-claim in a libel suit filed against him by Buhari Campaign Organization (BCO)

- Atiku, in the counter-claim, is seeking the sum of N2 billion as damages

- The PDP presidential candidate said part of the N2 billion damages will go to IDPs camps in the country

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, February 18, has filed a counter-claim at the FCT High Court in a suit libel suit filed against him by the Buhari Campaign Organization (BCO).

The BCO had accused Atiku of sponsoring the allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari's family has shares in a communication company.

Atiku in his counter claim is asking the court to mandate President Buhari and his agents including security operatives and officers to abide by the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers entrenched in the constitution and should not intervene in the forthcoming elections, Daily Trust reports.

Atiku, through his counsel, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume (SAN), is also asking for N2billion damages for the libel suit against him.

The PDP presidential candidate said part of the N2billion should be given to IDP camps across the country and the rest be used in equipping libraries and information technology centres for all state Universities in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the Adamawa state's Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kashim Gaidam, has debunked a rumour that he turned down a bribe of $1million from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Gaidam said he was not over such money to rig the presidential poll and he doesn't even have any relationship with the PDP presidential candidate.

The Adamawa state's REC made the statement to address reports that he turned down the sum of $1million bribe and a house in Dubai from Atiku to rig the presidential election.

Gaidam, who accused desperate politicians of spreading the false claims, threatened court action against those spreading the rumour.
