President Muhammadu Buhari has according to The Cable sought the opinion of the Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami on extending the tenure of the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris.
Idris, who on January 3 clocked 35 years in office and should have retired, has continued to report for office and serve as the inspector general.
A source who spoke to The Cable said:
The president has asked Malami for a legal opinion on the tenure extension. He does not want to take any decision that will be upturned by the courts.
