Sultan of Sokoto declares Tuesday, January 8, 1st day of Jumadal-Hula

- The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affair says Monday, January 7, is the last day of Rabiul-Thani, 1440AH

- The council approves Tuesday, January 8, 2019, as the 1st day of Jumadal-Hula, 1440AH and enjoins the Nigerian Muslims to continue to promote peaceful coexistence and unity among all the citizens of the country

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has approved Tuesday, January 8, as the 1st day of Jumadal-Hula 1440AH.

The deputy secretary-general of NSCIA, Salisu Shehu, in a statement said Monday, January 7, was the last day of Rabiul-Thani, 1440AH, Daily Trust reports.

“In line with the above, the President-General of NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto, has approved Tuesday, January 8, 2019 as the 1st day of Jumadal-Hula, 1440AH, the statement said.

“The council hereby enjoins the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to continue to promote peaceful coexistence and unity among all the citizens of the country."

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would meet with traditional rulers and religious leaders in Plateau towards a free, fair and credible elections.

Osaretin Imahiyereobo, head, voter education and publicity of the commission in the state made this known in a statement on Monday, January 7, in Jos, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

He said the meeting, holding between January 14 and January 15 respectively, was imperative owing to the critical roles the stakeholders would play in ensuring peaceful polls.
