The presidency has told Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state to stop spreading false reports in churches about President Buhari's so-called plans to Islamise the state.
Malam Garba Shehu, is the senior special assistant on media and publicity to the president in series of tweets on Sunday, January 13, called on Ortom to desist from basing his campaign for re-election on falsehoods concerning the president and instead focus on the dire issues confronting the State.

The presidency accused Ortom of basing his campaign division and hatred to divert the people's attention from his inability to pay staff salaries and pensions for several months.
Shehu described the claims by the governor that Buhari was planning to Islamise Benue state as nonsense.
The presidential spokesperson said the allegations coming from Ortom were particularly unfair, given the support the federal government offered the governor on the passing of the grazing laws as a means to end the farmer-herder crises in Benue.

Shehu said Ortom attacks on President Buhari and the federal government was an attempt to divert attention from his inability to pay staff salaries and pensions for months.
The presidency called on Governor Ortom to immediately desist from alleged falsehood and nonsense concept of campaign.
Meanwhile, Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom has condemned the attack on the family house of Senate President, Bukola Saraki in Kwara state.
In a statement sent to Legit.ng on Sunday, January 13 by his spokesman, Terver Akase, the governor described the act as, “shameful, barbaric and capable of heightening tension in Kwara state and the country at large.”
He said the use of thugs backed by police to intimidate and silence political opponents must be condemned by all Nigerians as the country prepares for this year's elections.
