I have no choice but to commend Buhari- Obiano says, inspects 2nd Niger bridge

- Governor Willie Obiano says he has no choice than to praise President Muhammadu Buhari over the second Niger bridge

- Obiano says the bridge would boost the economy of the south east, the south south and the entire Nigeria

- The contractor handling the project says the bridge would be delivered on or before February 28, 2022

The governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the level of work on the second Niger bridge just as he expressed satisfaction with the standard and progress relating to the project.

Leadership reports that the governor was visibly happy with the extent of work done so far on the bridge.

Obiano expressed confidence that the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari would deliver on the job as scheduled.

The report quoted the governor as saying that the bridge, when completed, would boost the economic activities of the south east and south south and, by extension, the entire country.

“I have no choice than to praise President Muhammadu Buhari for his determination in the implementation of other federal government projects in the state and other states in the region,” he said.

Speaking during the inspection, the project director of Julius Berger Construction Company, Fredrick Wieser, said the construction would be in three phases.

He said the bridge will be 1.6 km, while the access road from Asaba axis will be 3.3 km and 7km from Anambra respectively.

“Right now, we are doing foundation work in the river which will be 50 metres deep.

“The pilling work in the river will be 15 metres above water level to allow free flow of ships,” he said.

According to him, the bridge would be delivered on or before February 28, 2022.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the federal controller of works in Anambra state, Innocent Alumonah, stated that the Second Niger Bridge linking Asaba and Onitsha which is currently being constructed, is already at 44.6% completion.

Speaking on Monday, April 9, Alumonah disclosed that the company handling the project, Julius Berger, has accomplished about 85 piles of 914 millimeter in diameter in different axis.
