The endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has been condemned by the Middle Belt Forum.

In a statement released by its national president , Dr. Bitrus Pogu, on Sunday, January 13, the forum described the endorsement as a form of support for the reign of terror going on in the Middle Belt region, Punch reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the forum said the federal government's failure to hold MACBAN responsible for the killings in the region was proof that the Buhari government and Miyeti Allah members were partnering to foist a reign of terror on the people.

Pogu further raised the alarm over renewed killings in the region, which he said were not being reported by the media.

He said “in order to promote the ambitions of some top politicians opposed to the interests of the Middle Belt people,” states and the federal government were turning a blind eye to the ethnic killings.

Pogu said: “The MBF recalls the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election by the MACBAN whose membership has claimed responsibility for most of these attacks.

“By refusing to arrest them and make them face prosecution, the MBF is convinced that the MACBAN and the current administration are collaborating to foist a reign of terror on the people of the Middle Belt region. The MBF calls on President Buhari to bring perpetrators of these unprecedented genocide to book.”

The forum commended Amnesty International for its November 2018 report on the killings across the country. It noted that Amnesty's statistics were just a tip of the iceberg, adding that according to media reports, within 11 months in 2018, about 5,113 lives were wasted.

Pogu further accused the federal government of denying attack victims funds and international support to enable them to rebuild their lives, while turning the Middle Belt into a mass grave.

The forum also noted that the resurgence of Boko Haram’s activities in the north-east and the ongoing displacement of many people reflected the terrorists' determination to annihilate the people in the two regions. It said it was tragic that the country was witnessing her worst time, in terms of insecurity, under the Buhari administration.
