A High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has approved accelerated hearing of a suit seeking to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute the first lady of Kano state, Dr. Hafsatu Ganduje.
The suit marked CV/344/18 and a motion ex-parte marked M/887/18 is seeking the EFCC to arrest and arraign Mrs Ganduje over her alleged role she in a $5 million bribery scandal involving her husband, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Vanguard reports.

The suit which named EFCC, Kano state government and the All Progressives Congress as first, second and third defendants, was lodged by a group called Incorporated Trustees of Hope Development and Empowerment Foundation.
Justice Yusuf Halilu who presided over the court asked the defendants to show cause why all assets owned by and/or traceable to Governor Ganduje and his wife, should not be temporarily forfeited, pending the hearing.
Justice Halilu also ordered the APC, through its National Working Committee, to equally show cause why it should not be directed to immediately remove and substitute Governor Ganduje’s name as its candidate for the 2019 general election in Kano state.

Legit.ng earlier reported that a Kano high court presided by Justice Ahmed Tijjani Badamasi said that the state House of Assembly does not have the power to investigate or invite or summon the governor over any alleged criminal case.
According to Justice Badamasi, the power to investigate criminal charges is vested in the police, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
