2019: Nigerians can no longer be swayed by money politics - Buhari speaks about forthcoming election

President Muhammadu Buhari, late Thursday, January 10, declared that he would be remembered as the president who never opened up the nation’s treasury for the purpose of engaging in money politics ahead of elections.

Buhari is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming 2019 elections.

The president vowed that he would like to leave behind a clean-up campaign in which public funds are not utilized by individuals in the process of seeking re-election.

“I have made it clear to Government officials that there will be no money from the treasury for use in the 2019 campaign.

“I will not authorize that. One of the legacies I would like to leave behind is the clean-up of campaign financing in Nigeria.

“We cannot and will not share money from the treasury to prospective voters. Nigerians have long sought for change and only the All Progressives Congress (APC) can deliver - and is delivering - that change. Our people can no longer be swayed by money politics," he said in a short message on his social media handle.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PPCO) said the defeat of ruling party’s candidate in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)’s presidential election was another pointer to the impending defeat of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 16 presidential election.

The director, media and publicity of the organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the statement on Thursday, January 10, in a congratulatory message to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) president-elect, Felix Tshiekedi, for his victory at the just concluded election in that country.
