Vote Buhari or risk losing presidency to south-west in 2023 - Ngige warns Igbo

- Chris Ngige has called on south-east indigenes to vote President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election

- Ngige said the vice president slot given to the region by PDP is not good enough

- He claimed that returning Buhari to power is the only way to ensure Igbo presidency in 2023

The minister of labour and employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has urged the people of south-east to return President Muhammadu Buhari to power in 2019 so as not to lose out on getting a president of Igbo extraction in 2023.

Ngige, while speaking with reporters in Obosi in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state on Sunday, Decmber 9, said an Igbo man might have a chance to take over presidency in 2023 if President Buhari is allowed to serve another four years, Punch reports.

He said: “This man (Buhari) has only one term (four years) to do and go home, and an Igboman will replace him. But if you leave this shortest route and take a gamble, you are on your own.

“If Igbo refuse to play their cards right in next year’s general elections, the south-west will take away the chance from them."

“They will produce the next president after Buhari, because the zone has shown demonstrable commitment to Buhari’s cause.

“My good friend Babatunde Fashola has blown the whistle. What he said should be a warning signal to the Igbo, because you can’t stop the south-west from producing the next president of the country after supporting Buhari and the APC government.

“That is why I’m telling our people now to come out en masse in next year’s election and vote for Buhari, so that nothing will stop you from succeeding him in 2023.”

Ngige also described the vice-presidential slot given to the Igbo by the Peoples Democratic Party as a “mere spare tyre that might be used for over six years”.

Legit.ng earlier reported that some northern leaders have disagreed over President Muhammadu Buhari's decision to seek re-election during the 2019 general elections.

Barely three months to next year’s elections, some northern leaders said they would not support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.

They, however, announced their preferred presidential candidate in the elections, insisting that the candidate to support remained one of their own from the list of the 71 presidential hopeful cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest the 2019 elections.
