Tension in Abule Egba as vandals cause explosion (photos, videos)

There is pandemonium in Abule Egbe area of Lagos as fire ravaging the locality following vandalisation of oil pipelines by some vandals.

The Nation reports that some residential and commercial houses were reportedly affected in the fire which began at about 3.30 am on Wednesday, December 19.

Legit.ng gathered that the vandals were reported responsible for explosion from the pipelines, which extended to Abule Egba Bus Stop.

Some witnesses to the incident said cars, houses including shops were still destroyed in the fire.

Also, resident in the area have called for response from relevent authorities as the fire is said to be spreading wide.

However, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA's) response unit in an early morning tweet on Wednesday, December 19, said the explosion occurred due to bunkering activities in the area.

According to LASEMA, the fire was triggered from the bunkering activities contact with an ignitable source.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a fire outbreak on Wednesday, December 5, gutted the palatial residence of the lawmaker representing Ovia constituency in the House of Representatives, Omosede Igbinedion.

An assistant superintendent of police serving under the Aideyan division has been hospitalized after he inhaled smoke while attempting to put out the fire.

The policeman had climbed a ladder to use fire extinguishers to stop the fire from spreading but the thick smoke coming from the building prevented him.
