He told BT Sport: "It was not just the players, but the whole football club.

"I'm sure Ed Woodward was the same, the staff, the kitchen ladies, the kit men weren't enjoying it. Ole's the person to help straight away and I know they're happy.

"Once Ole got the job, I played with Ole so I sent him a message of congratulations.

''My feelings of how it's been from speaking to some players and what I've felt needs to change.

"First of all, it was getting the lads enjoying playing football again. That's what they want,''.

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer began his reign as Manchester United interim manager with a superb win over Cardiff City in a Premier League tie.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Premier League giants Manchester United appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjær as their new manager until the end of the ongoing 2018/19 Premier League season.

The 45-year-old Norwegian football manager replaces former gaffer Jose Mourinho who was thrown out of the club because of poor results.

He will be joined by Mike Phelan as first-team coach, together with Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna this season at Old Trafford.
