Premier League top defender ruled out of action until New Year with fractured leg

- Joe Gomez will be out for one-and-half month after fracturing his leg in Liverpool's 3-1 win over Burnley

- The reliable centre-back Gomez was spotted on crutches today as he 'visited' medics for a scan

- He will be greatly missed in the heart of Liverpool defence this festive period

Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez is facing six weeks on the sideline after fracturing his lower leg during Reds 3-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

According to The Mirror, the Liverpool defence ace was involved in a nasty tackle with Clarets defender Ben Mee in the 23rd minute and was forced to take an early shower.

The injury was greeted with hot exchange of words by the pair of Jurgen Klopp and Sean Dyche on the touchline as Gomez was stretched off.

However, the centre-back who was caught on camera today arriving for a scan on the fractured leg, is now set to recuperate from the injury during the busy festive period.

Already, Gomez has become an important manager of Liverpool squad in the current campaign, and his absence will be greatly missed as the Reds continue their quest for honours.

Interestingly, Gomez remains a favourite of club boss Klopp, who has sealed a perfect match with Dutch star Virgil van Dijk in the heart of Liverpool defence.

At the last count, Gomez has played in various role across the Reds defence, even in Champions League games and will greatly missed in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that Premier League campaigners, Liverpool, on Wednesday night, December 5, defeated struggling Burnley 3-1 to extend their unbeaten run in the league.

The tough match played at Turf Moor saw Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, make several changes to the side that defeated Everton in the weekend.

The hosts should have taken an early lead minutes to the break via Ashley Barnes, but his effort was ruled for an offside as both sides finished level at half-time.

Upon the resumption of the second half, Burnley continued with their aggression, with their efforts paying off through Jack Cork who broke the deadlock in the 54th minute.

The visitors, however, restored parity in the 62nd minute, with James Milner pulling one back thanks to Origi's sublime assist.

Liverpool doubled their lead via Roberto Firmino seven minutes later, before Xherdan Shaqiri capitalised on Mohamed Salah's assist at stoppage time to put the game beyond Burnley.
