Pray for your leaders, peace of Nigeria at Christmas - APC admonishes Nigerians

Nigeria's ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, December 24, called on Nigerians to use the occasion of Christmas to pray for the country’s leaders, peace, progress and socio-economic development.

The party said this in a Christmas message to Nigerians as the country joins others across the world to celebrate the 2018 Christmas.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, party's national publicity secretary, said it in Abuja while felicitating with Christians.

“As we gather with families and friends for the Christmas festivities which are characterised by gift-giving, social gatherings and feasting, we should remember to extend love and generosity to the less-privileged around us.

We should also emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ exemplified by self-sacrifice," the APC spokesman said.

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari urged all Nigerian Christians to reflect on the imagery of the humble, symbolic and divine birth of a young child thousands of years ago in Bethlehem.

The president in a letter to all Christians on Monday, December 24, said the birth of Jesus symbolises the message of hope, compassion, salvation, reconciliation, forgiveness and peace that Christ embodies and conveys.

Also, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said though there are things upon which Nigerians can disagree and differ, but they must rise over these differences and treat one another with kindness and decency.

Tinubu said this in a Christmas message to Nigerians Monday, December 24, in Lagos.

In the message he personally signed and made available to Legit.ng, Tinubu, a former Lagos governor said: “There will always be things upon which we will disagree and differ. Such is the way of life. But we must always transcend these inevitable differences to treat one another with fundamental kindness and decency. This is the real spirit of Christmas and this must be the spirit of the Nigeria we seek to build.

"May each and every Nigerian enjoy a Merry Christmas. May you share good tidings with family and friends on this day of peace and joy."
