The police in Akwa Ibom has decried the increase in cultism in primary and secondary schools in Eket local government area of the state.
DSP Isong Essien, the divisional commander officer 2 in Eket divisional police headquarters Essien made the remarks during the Secondary School Anti Cultism Summit in Eket, Akwa Ibom on Friday, November 30.
The police officer said that cultism was bad in its entirety.

“We are witnesses that cultism have gone down to secondary schools and even primary schools.
He stressed the need to sensitise and to inform the people on dangers of cultism in the state.
Essien defined cultism as a `religion which practice is very dangerous and different from the generally accepted religion’
“Whatever you do that stand you at the extreme is not good, whatever you do that make people to see you as dangerous is bad.”
Essien said that the theme: “The Aftermath of Cultism” was apt, stressing that the practice of cultism was condemnable.
“There is no gain in cultism; the aftermath of cultism is death. If you do badly your future and your life will be terminated,” Essien noted.
He lamented that police had sleepless night in order to stop the fight against two rival groups in Eket between 2017 and 2018 which resulted in deaths of some suspected cultists in the area.
“There were clashes during the period and the people were killed. After our investigation, it was found that one of the victims had employment in one of the multinational oil company in the Eket,” Essien disclosed.
He advised students to shun cultism and bad companies to have a brighter future.
He thanked the Eket Students Association (EKSA Worldwide), for the initiative in touring schools to inform students of negative effects of cultism in the area.
Earlier, Mr Ifiokobong Akanimo, the President, Eket Students Association said the association had taken anti cultism campaign to secondary schools in Eket and its environs.
He said that at the end of the campaign, he was convinced that the students had great potential in developing and making the nation great in future.
“ESKA has extended empathy to help the upcoming generation through the years.
“Together we have embarked on a distinctive path of operation to eradicate cultism and the use of hard drugs in our communities,” he said.
He promised that the association would eradicate the virus called cultism by following the principles of sincerity in telling the secondary schools students about the aftermath of cultism.
“We have worked in unity and forged ahead in eradicating corruption from its root and rising yet to a brand new generation that could make a better and peaceful nation,” he said.
Mr Emmanuel Mbong, the PDP chairman in Eket advised the students to take their studies seriously and shun cultism.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a suspected member of a cult group, Chinedu Emenike, confessed that he joined a notorious gang while in the higher institution with the hope that he will secure employment after graduation.
