According to a Twitter user, @Topmaike_mighty, the southeast have not been able to produce a president since the assassination of Aguiyi Ironsi on July 29, 1966.

He said: "All the regions have ruled,no one from the South East have been the president since when Ironsi was assassinated,so I think it's time they should allow the south east to rule..."

However, another respondent, said it would be the case of an elephant passing through the eye of needle for an Igbo to become a president in Nigeria.

The user said the perceived lack of unity among the Igbos is a bane to the regions hope for a president.

He said: "The Igbos are not united as a people. They are selfish by nature. Presidency is very far from them, unless they repent and learn to agree and speak in one voice, the president will never come from the southeast."

He said the southwest has a better political alignment than any other region in the country on presidential zoning.

Meanwhile, @Naseer_kat is of the opinion that Nigerians should have patience until after the forthcoming 2019 election.

Naseer said the outcome of the next year's election would determine who would lead Nigerians in 2023.

Also, there was still some mixed feelings about the region that would produce the 2023 president as some Nigerians said that until citizens care less about such issues, Nigeria would remain underdeveloped.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that with a few days to the 2019 general elections and the emergence of various candidates after the conclusion of the primaries by all registered political parties, there have been a series of allegations and counter-allegations involving major candidates.

The most notable, as the elections draw nearer, is the unending political battle between the supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and that of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

For instance, while the supporters of President Buhari accused Atiku of corruption and ask him to visit the United States to prove he is clean, the supporters of the PDP presidential candidate accused President Buhari of not having a WAEC certificate, constantly questioning the educational competence of the president.
