Nigeria is more corrupt today than ever before - Atiku insists

- The PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, alleges that the federal government has made corruption to become an official policy

- Atiku faults the reported warm treatment given to sacked secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), David Babachir Lawal, at the presidential villa recently

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has said Nigeria is more corrupt today than ever before.

Atiku in a statement on Monday, December 17, by his media adviser Paul Ibe, alleged that the federal government had made corruption to become an official policy, The Nation reports.

He made the claim when speaking on the backdrop of a visit of the sacked secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), David Babachir Lawal made at the presidential villa recently, where he reportedly received a warm welcome.

The PDP candidate faulted the reported warm treatment given to a man he said was accused of diverting money meant for starving IDPs.

Atiku cited Transparency International’s claim that the level of corruption in Nigeria was more than those of other previous regimes.

“These are the actions that feed the perceptions that have made Nigeria turn in its worst ever Corruption Perception Index rating by Transparency International, where we went back 12 steps in 2018’s rankings, moving from 136 under President Jonathan to 148 today," the statement said.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has assured Nigerians that he will continue to serve the country with dedication and commitment as he celebrates his 76th birthday.

In a series of tweets via his twitter page on Monday, December 17, the president thanked those who helped to celebrate his birthday.

He noted that progress has been made since he came into office in 2015 particularly in the area social investment and human development.

He promised that nothing will come between his plans to bring change to Nigerians.
