Governor Ayade, Donald Duke stun as over 200 bikers participate in the 2018 Calabar carnival

- The 2018 Calabar Carnival is living up to its expectations

- The carnival for cars and bikes is becoming a major part of the event

- Tagged 'Wonders on Wheels', it is an initiative of Governor Ben Ayade introduced to the carnival

No fewer than 200 sleek cars and bikers from the United States, Canada, Germany and Australia participated in the bikers carnival at the ongoing 2018 Calabar Carnival tagged 'Wonders on Wheels'

The event which is an initiative of Governor Ben Ayade, was held on Thursday, December 27 in Calabar, the Cross River state capital and just as expected, the commencement of the carnival was welcomed with an ecstatic atmosphere.

Thousands of excited residents and visitors lined up on major roads in the city to witness the eye-popping rides that were on display. A wonderful teaser from the 'Wonders on Wheels' rapidly increased the celebratory spirits of bystanders.

Declaring the event open, Governor Ayade urged all visitors to the event to enjoy Calabar, noting that the city has become Africa's hotbed of hospitality.

His words: ''We welcome everybody to Calabar - Africa's hotbed of hospitality. We welcome you with warmth and the agility of the African man. We welcome you and provide our shoulder for you to lean on. Please find time to enjoy the pleasure of Calabar. Sit back and enjoy the wonder of wheels.

Some of our friends from various countries are here to participate in the biker's parade. We have nationals from Germany, US, Canada, Australia as you can see. We are going to give you a new version of what Calabar Carnival represents. Today, we have added 'Wonders on Wheels; with a brand of Formula K bikes. You'll witness displays and things you have never seen before.''

True to his words, the bikers who appeared not less than 250, came in their numbers and put on quite a good show much to the pleasure of the cheering crowd, fast increasing.

Leading the bikers was the governor's aide on his signature scorpion bike, surrounded by his biker entourage. While this appears to be the same as the fancy machine used in 2017, it did little to reduce the excitement from the crowd.

Past governor, Donald Duke, was also in attendance. Sitting majestically on his monster bat-like power bike, the arrival of the much revered former governor had everyone ecstatic.
