Former United States president George Herbert Walker Bush has passed away. His spokesman, Jim McGrath, revealed that he died late Friday, November 30, at the age 94 in Houston.
He served two terms as Ronald Reagan's vice president before he was elected the 41st US president in 1988, defeating Democrat Michael Dukakis.
The president's health had been in decline in recent months
His death comes after his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush, died on April 17 at age 92, CNN reports.
Bush is survived by his sons George W. Bush, former president; Jeb, the former Florida governor and 2016 presidential candidate; Neil and Marvin; daughter Dorothy; and 17 grandchildren.

His daughter Robin died of leukemia as a child. He will be buried alongside her and his late wife at his presidential library in College Station, Texas.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time, according to the statement released by Bush's spokesman.
Bush was a son of a senator, Prescott Bush of Connecticut, celebrated World War II combat pilot, student athlete, Texas oilman, Republican congressman, national party chairman, pioneering diplomat and spy chief.
He is the first sitting vice president to be elected to the presidency since 1836. He was also only the second person in US history to see his own son follow in his presidential footsteps when George W. Bush was elected in 2000.

He lost the 1992 presidential election, after which he became a widely admired political elder. He became close with Democrat Bill Clinton, the man who ended his presidency.
