Former Manchester United stars, others react to Jose Mourinho's sacking

Manchester United sacked Jose Mourinho after two-and-a-half years in charge at the Theatre of Dreams, after a nightmare season start at the helm at Old Trafford.

And now club legends and veterans have come out to share their two cents one the situation at Old Trafford and the sacking of manager Jose Mourinho.

Ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand who was recently on tour in Kenya said he was one of Mourinho's biggest advocates when coming in to the club but felt that it was time for fresh ideas.

"I was one of the biggest advocates two and a half years ago when Mourinho joined Manchester United and felt he stabilised the club when we needed it," he said.

"You can't ignore what Jose has achieved as a manager previously but I feel that the time has come for fresh ideas at Manchester United," Rio concluded.

Rio's fellow former defender Patrice Evra called for positivity and a new energy about the club instead if dwelling on previous drama's and side issues such as Paul Pogba's feud with Mourinho.

"Let's focus on rebuilding something solid instead of being in a playground. Doing this is only disrespecting the badge, from now one we only need positivity," the Frenchman said.

Micheal Owen, who played for United from 2000- to 2012, felt the Jose's departure was inevitable and the Portuguese had it coming.

"Inevitable is the word I'd use," Owen tweeted. "Mourinho had to go in the end. Simply not getting anywhere near enough out of his players.

Meanwhile to Liverpool legend's by the name of Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard who nearly signed for Mourinho while he was Chelsea boss, also weighed in on Mourinho's axing.

"He's obviously a world class manager. He's been a rival, for many, many years when I played. He's done the best job since Alex Ferguson left," Gerrard said.

"It will be interesting to see which direction the new manager will take but non of the Manchester United fans will acre what I say about it," he added.

While Carragher said: "Taking the captaincy off Pogba, giving it to him in the first place, it all just looked like it was coming to an end and that was before a ball was even kicked," the -ex-Liverpool stars said.

Tottenham's manager Maurico Pochettino, one of the favourites to replace Mourinho, said the ex-United manager is his friend and he felt sorry for him and wished him the best.

"I have a very good relationship with Jose, he is a good firend, it is sad new. It is not my business what has happened in an other club. I send my best wishes to Jose," the Spaniard said.

The 55-year-old was appointed manager after he resigned at Chelsea in the 2016-17 season and has won three trophies.

The Portuguese gaffer won three trophies since his arrival at the Manchester club including the EFL Cup, the Community Shield and the Europa League.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has reacted negatively to the sacking of their manager Jose Mourinho.

The 25-year-old posted an image of himself on his Instagram and Twitter accounts with a smug look on his face with a description saying: Caption this!
