The immediate past registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Dibu Ojerinde, has lamented that Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo state remains the most underdeveloped and marginalised region in the country.
Legit.ng regional reporter in Oyo, Imran Khalid, reports that Ojerinde, who is the chairman, Oke-Ogun Development Council (ODC), disclosed this in Igboho, his country home, during an exclusive interview with the press.
He said that with its current population, economic buoyancy, mineral resources and the strength of the local governments, the region remains the most marginalised one in Oyo state and Nigeria at large.

The former JAMB boss said there were five geo-political zones in Oyo state which consist of Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa respectively.
He said without being economical with the truth, Ibadan remains the largest zone in the state with eleven (11) local governments while Oke-Ogun is the second largest with (10) local governments which include: Atisbo,Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa, Kajola, Irepo, Oorelope, Olorunsogo, Saki east and Saki west respectively.
Ojerinde added that with its total population of six million spreading across the respective local governments, the area could not boast of any government's universities, colleges of education, hospitals, motorable roads across the local governments and other modern infrastructures in the region.
While speaking on the region's economic prosperity, he said that if government's attention was paid to the area and ensure the deposited mineral resources were tapped as expected, the accrued and generated funds are enough to establish the standard companies for its inhabitants' employment.
He said there were many untapped mineral resources that God spreads to the respective local governments, adding that marbles and dolomite could be found in Olorunsogo local government, tourmaline, talc, quartz and Columbite are deposited in Itesiwaju local government and Tantalite is untapped in Irepo local government respectively.
On the issue of tourism, Ojerinde said there were Ado Awaye suspended lake, Igbo Oba in Kisi, Ebedi hill in Iseyin, Asabari hall in Saki, Akomare hill in igangan respectively.
He said if those historical places were converted to tourist centres, the government would generate money and people within the communities would be gainfully employed.
Ojerinde, however, called on public office holders who are illustrious indegenes of the region to come together and fight for common purpose, adding that with love and unity, the region could produce the executive governors of the state, speakers of the state House of assembly and other key positions in the state and Nigeria as a whole.
